The M-51 Olive Green Field Jacket
The M-51 was originally developed for action in Korea, resulting in a practical jacket with water repellent and wind resistant properties.
Crafted from cotton sateen, in the renowned "OG (Olive Green) 107" colour shade, the piece features an adjustable drawstring waist, epaulets to the shoulders, snap button closures, convenient 4-pocket front and button cuffs.
As similar to its predecessor the M-50, the jacket is cut oversized to be worn as a layering piece, in addition to incorporating a functional and militaria style.
This original piece is in overall good condition for its age and use. However, it has had a small repair to the cuff, in order to see it through many more adventures. A garment taken from Mr. Cordeaux's personal vintage collection, of authentic and age-old pieces.
Whilst military uniform has been adapted over the centuries, the designs have always remained efficient to produce and useful for their intended purpose throughout the field.
A garment first developed for serving-men with its handy characteristics, the style has been appropriated by popular and countercultural movements. Often seen on the shoulders of notable figures such as Steve McQueen and John Lennon, making the U.S. military field jacket undoubtedly iconic.
